Andrew Anthony "Andy" Baier, 75, of 2226 South St., Canon City, Colo., died after a battle with heart and Huntington's disease. He passed peacefully at his home March 29, 2013, surrounded by his family.

He was born Oct. 4, 1937, in Garden City, Kan., to Philip and Mary (Burgardt) Baier.

He was raised on a farm near Holcomb, Kan., and graduated from Holcomb High School in 1955. Andy served in the National Guard and Army Reserves.

On May 21, 1957, he married Janet Kay Barber in Garden City, Kan.

In 1957 he began a floor covering business, Andy's Floor Service in Dodge City, Kan., retiring from the business after 48 years. He took pride in all he did and worked very hard. After retirement, Andy and Janet moved to Colorado. Andy was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and assisted with the Boy Scouts of America. He enjoyed playing softball, hunting and bowling. He also enjoyed playing the trumpet, piano and playing in German Polka Bands. Andy was a loving, husband, father, grandfather and brother. He supported his family in every goal they pursued.

Mr. Baier is survived by his wife, Janet of Canon City; children, Annette Tolliver of Dodge City, Kan., Michael Baier and wife Nancy of Florence, Colo., Barbara Konrade and companion Robert Esfeld of Great Bend, Kan., and Phillip Baier and companion Debbie Saul of Denver, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He also is survived by brothers, Johnny Baier and wife Pat of Holcomb, Kan., and Jim Baier and wife Linda of Garden City, Kan.; and sisters, Helen Smith, Mary Jane Baier, and Virginia Green and husband Dennis, all of Garden City, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eddie and David; and sister, Kathy Baier.

Recitation of the Rosary was prayed at 7 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2013, at St. Michael Catholic Church. Memorial Mass was held at 10 a.m. April 2, 2013, also at St. Michael Catholic Church in Canon City, Colo.

Memorial donations may be made to Sangre de Cristo Hospice at 601 Greenwood Ave., Canon City, CO 81212.
