Funeral services have been set for Friday afternoon for Mrs. Carrie E. Johnson, 72, who succumbed Tuesday morning after a lengthy illness, in the Holman Memorial Hospital in Humboldt.

Services will be held at the Methodist Church in Table Rock at 2:00 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. Alvin Trucano officiating. Interment will be made in the Table Rock Cemetery.

The body will lie in state at the church from 10:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Beethe Mortuary of Elk Creek is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Johnson was born on a farm northeast of Table Rock on July 29, 1892 to Ben and Martha Heer. She was married to Hugh B. Johnson on July 13, 1916 and to this union three children were born, an infant son dying shortly after birth. Mr. Johnson passed away on October 13, 1951.

Mrs. Johnson was employed at the Holman Hospital in Humboldt for fourteen years. She was a member of the former Presbyterian Church in Table Rock.

Three sisters, five brothers and three grandchildren preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Donald of Elk Creek; a daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Frances) Mertes of Table Rock; and a sister Mrs. Alice Warner of Grand Island. Three grandchildren, Harlan Mertes of Hebron, Don Mertes of Table Rock, and Jackie Sue Johnson of Elk Creek also mourn her death besides other relatives and many friends.

Hugh B. Johnson Dies In Lincoln
Former Fire Chief Here, Dies In Veteran's Hospital Saturday

Death claimed the life of Hugh B. Johnson, 57, former Table Rock resident and for many years local Fire Chief, at the Veteran's Hospital in Lincoln, Saturday.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at Hodgman-Splain Chapel in Lincoln with the Rev. James Ray officiating. He was laid to rest in Soldier's Circle in Wyuka Cemetery, with the American Legion Post No. 3 of Lincoln conducting special graveside services.

Mr. Johnson left Table Rock in 1945 for Lincoln, where he was employed for a time at the Air Base, and then at the Veteran's Hospital. He is a veteran of the first World War.

Mr. Johnson was born in Elk Creek on June 16, 1894, and passed away October 13, 1951. He is survived by his wife; one son, Donald L. of Elk Creek; one daughter, Mrs. Frances Mertes of Table Rock; three grandchildren; his father, Frank Johnson of Tecumseh, four sisters and three brothers.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Mertes attended the funeral Tuesday.

OBITUARY of MRS. ELLEN HASTINGS

Sarah Ellen Heer, daughter of Ben and Martha Heer, was born at Table Rock, Nebr. December 17, 1889 and passed away at McDonald, Kan. February 3, 1939. Her age being 49 years, 1 month and 17 days. She spent her girlhood days in the family home of Table Rock, coming to Rawlins County in 1914. Ellen, as she was known to her many friends, was kind, loving and considerate to all.

She was united in marriage to Alvin D. Hastings, at McDonald, Kansas on December 10, 1916. To this union six children were born, one son passing away at infancy, and Herma Miller of Denver, Colo., Lela, Lealand, Wayne and Gloria all at home. She was a loving and faithful wife, a wonderful mother and a friend to all that knew her.

She is survived by her husband, children, five brothers and four sisters and many other relatives and friends. She fulfilled her duties graciously and uncomplaining and will be sadly missed by the community in which she lived.
