WILLIAMSTOWN - Clement E. Merwine, Sr., 76, formerly of Williamstown, died Thursday at the Lebanon V.A. Medical Center.
Born in Williamstown on April 29, 1927, he was a son of the late Clement O. and Ada Kimmel Merwine.
He was a World War II and Korean War Army Veteran.
He was a retired supply clerk with 79th Army Reserve Command at Ft. Indiantown Gap, after 37 years of service. He also retired after 35 years of service as a Master Sgt., with the National Guard 228 Supply & Transport.
He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, a life member of the Williamstown American Legion #239, Liberty Hose Co. #1, Williamstown, Williamstown V.F.W., and Tower City Loyal Order of Moose #1603. He was active with the Williamstown Youth Athletic Association, where he was a former coach. He was the pitcher for the championship Ft. Indiantown Gap slow pitch baseball team. He was also an allstar pitcher for the Orwin Rockets. He was a stock car racer at the former Goldmine Raceway. He enjoyed bowling, darts and horseshoe pitching.
He was predeceased by a grandson, Brandon Merwine and a sister, Shirley Nehanke.
Surviving are his wife, Joan E. Lubold Merwine of Elizabethville, to whom he would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on March 22; his children, Clement E. , Jr., of Elizabethville, Rick R. of Carlisle, Jacqueline J. Whitcomb of Williamstown and Linda L. Flynn of Tower City; a brother, Lester of Williamstown; 2 sisters, Ardys Bowerman of Hershey and Carol Zerbe of Williamstown; 13 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10 a.m., from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Homes, Inc., Tower City. Burial with full military honors will be in Ft. Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30-10 a.m. at the chapel.
