He was born July 09, 1918 in Hegins, the son of the late Clement and Ada Kimmel Merwine.
Lester was a 1936 graduate of Williamstown High School.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Lester retired from Harrisburg Steel after forty-one years of service.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Lester was a member of the American Legion Post No. 239 for fifty-six years and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6497 for sixty-three years.
He was an enthusiastic fan of the Penn State Nittany Lions, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Philadelphia Phillies.
In addition to his parents, Lester was preceded in death by his sisters: Shirley Niehenkie and Carol Zerby; and, his brother: Clement "Buddy" Merwine.
He is survived by his wife of seventy-one years: Kathleen "Deen" Clouser Merwine; his daughter: Janice R. (G. Dean) Miller of Harrisburg; his son: Larry D. (Rhonda) Merwine of Mechanicsburg; his granddaughter: Leslie Merwine; his grandsons: Chris Miller, Rod Miller, Jared Miller, and Mike Merwine; his great-granddaughter: Boston Merwine; and, his sister: Ardys Bowerman of Hershey.
There will be no Viewing or Visitation.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, March 04, 2010 in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with Pastor Kathleen Kuehl officiating.
