Rachel was born in rural Barton County, Kansas on October 4, 1914, the daughter of Johann Phillip and Magdalena (Boger) Popp. On June 18, 1933, Rachel was united in marriage to Paul Nuss. To this union two children were born; daughter Wilmetta Jane (Nuss) Deutsch and son Norman Paul Nuss.
Rachel was a devoted wife and homemaker, living on the farm south of Milberger in Russell County until 1991 when she moved to Russell. She was a member of United Emanuel Lutheran Church of Milberger. As a member over the years she enjoyed helping with church dinners and quilting. Quilting was her passion. She made embroidered and hand quilted quilts for all of her family.
Rachel's surviving family include her daughter, Wilmetta Deutsch of Hutchinson, Kansas; son, Norman Nuss (Romilda) of Manhattan, Kansas; four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, nine brothers, four sisters and son-in-law Dean Deutsch.
Celebration of Rachel's Life will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the United Emanuel Lutheran Church of Milberger. Burial will follow at the Milberger Cemetery. Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary is in charge of these arrangements.
