Mrs. Lena Maurer, 78, 843 Baldwin Road, died Friday at a Topeka hospital.

She was born May 18, 1904 at Hays, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Beratz Schiffelbein.

She moved from Ness City to Topeka in 1946. Mrs. Mauer was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Christian Mothers and St. Agnes Sedality, all at Topeka.

She married Nick Pfannenstiel in January 1921 at Ness City. He died in February 1941. She later married Carl Maurer in December 1952 at Topeka. He died in July 1959.

She also was preceded in death by two infant daughters.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Marion Desch, 843 Baldwin Road; a son, Edward Pfannenstiel, 3729 S.E. Howard; three sisters, Mrs. Maggie Haefner, 514 Wilson, Mrs. Connie Deghand, 2226 Croco Road, and Mrs. Pfeifer, Victoria; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Topeka. Mrs. Mauer will lie in state from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Brennan Funeral Home where rosaries will be recited by Christian Mothers at 6:30 p.m. and the parish at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 312 Freeman, Topeka.
