Ferdinand took over the management of the family farm from his step-father, Joseph Rinke, and by 1895, the Warren Twp. map shows that the farm was in his name. Ferdinand and Apollonia had thirteen children, all of them born in Warren Twp., MI.

Ferdinand was Supervisor of Warren Twp. from 1903 until his death in 1919. He died from pneumonia and the shock and grief caused by the sudden deaths of his son, Frank, daughter-in-law Mary, and four of their five children. They all died within days of each other in January 1919, victims of the Spanish Influenza Epidemic that swept the entire country at the end of World War I.
