A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 1997, in St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Roy for Louis Martin Spiering, who died Sept. 16 at age 87. A vigil prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22, in Forest Grove Memorial Chapel.

Mr. Spiering was born March 18, 1910, in Greenville. He attended St. Francis School. He married Ethel Heesacker in 1935. A lifelong resident of the Roy area, he was a wheat and dairy farmer for many years. He also did custom combining and well dowsing. He was a member of the church. His wife died in 1983.

Survivors include his daughters, Marlene Mangum and Karen Greene, both of Forest Grove, and Lois Gifford of Portland; sisters, Agnes Heesacker and Gertrude Landauer, both of Forest Grove; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to St. Francis Grade School in Banks.
