In the spring of 1884, Friederika, along with her parents and siblings, Marie, Christian, and August, left Antwerp, Belgium, on the Steamship, Pennland, for the United States. The family arrived in New York on May 9, 1884.
The family traveled to Kansas, settling in Clay County, where Friederika's father worked as a carpenter. Friederika had a total of 9 brothers and sisters: Marie Louisa, Christian Carl Albert, August, Katharine, Ernst William, Gustav Johannes, Emma Katharine, Frida Hulda and Edwin Eugene.
Friederika married Henry Hammerli on January 28, 1895 in Clay Center, Kansas. Henry was born in 1859 in Switzerland. Friederika's sister, Marie Louisa, also married a Henry Hammerli. I haven't checked into it, but it is entirely possible that her husband was closely related to Friederika's husband, probably cousins.
The 1900 Census shows the family living in Durham, Ottawa County, Kansas. Henry is a farmer while Friederika took care of their home and family. By then the couple had two daughters, Marie, born in 1896 and Marguerite, born in 1989. In June, 1900, Friederika and Henry welcomed their third child, a son they named Albert Joseph.
In the 1920 Census, Henry was living in Zeandale, Riley County, Kansas. Henry is still working as a farmer. For some reason, Friederika is not listed on the census; however, Henry is still married, and we know Friederika lived until 1957.
In the 1930 Census, both Friederika and her husband Henry are living at 323 North 18th St. in Manhattan, Riley County, Kansas. They own their home which has a value of $6,000.
Friederika died on February 8, 1957.
