John Starck was born in what is now known as Kabardino Balkarian Republic near Nalchik. It was part of the Russian empire. The German-Russian village he was born in was called Alexanderdorf. John Starck filed his Declaration of Intention with the Naturalization Service in the Sheridan County, North Dakota Courthouse on November 26th, 1912. On his application it states, "I was born in Nalschik, Russia on the 21st day of September, anno Domini 1883."


John's daughter, Laurene E. (Starck) Buehler interviewed John Starck and wrote his biography in 1971. The book was titled, "From the Caucasians to the Rockies." It was published by K&J Printing Co. Inc. Lakewood, Colorado. In this book John Starck's birthplace is listed as, Alexanderdorf, Russia. Alexanderdorf was a North Caucasus, German-Russian village near Nalchik, Russia.


In the book, From the Caucasians to the Rockies, it states that John Starck had no siblings.
