Married Catherine Scheele 16 Oct 1853 in their home town of Visselhövede, Hanover, Germany. They had 10 children. Eight were born in Germany and all immigrated to America. Two more daughters were born after their arrival to Huron County, Michigan.
He was much loved by children and grandchildren. When needed he and wife Catherine took in grand children to live with them. His farm was in Huron County Michigan on Klug Road in Sherman Twp. On the same road his sons Henry and Fred also built farms.
