In 1932, he and his sister Mary acted in the play, "Happy Valley"for the Dramatic Club of the Immaculate Conception Church along with several friends.


In his lifetime he resided in Osceola Mills, Coalport, Asbury Park, NJ, Altoona, Tyrone and Selinsgrove, PA.


Was stationed in Hammerfield and San Franciso,CA and served in Tokoyo, Japan. He and his sister Lt. Claire Riley, RN were one of Pennsylvania's few brother and sister teams serving the United States.

After retiring the service as Lt. Colonel in the United States Air Force 1942 - 1963, he taught school at the Smoke Run Public School and the Beccaria Township High School.
He also instructed classes on Mining and Citizenship at the High School.

Funeral Mass for James R. Riley, 66, formerly of the Osceola Mills area, who died at 11:30 p.m. Monday at the Selinsgrove Doctors Convalescence Center, will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Osceola Mills.
The Rev. Robert T Dempsey will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Born in Rush Township, Jan. 15,1908, he was the son of Joseph and Agnes (Hughes) Riley.
He was a former teacher in the Osceola Mills area schools and was a retired Lt.Colonel of the United States Air Force, having retired in 1963 after 20 years of active
service.
He was a member of the St. Pious Catholic Church of Selinsgrove, the John Ashley Dennis Jr. American Legion Post 437, the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Osceola Mills and the Retired Officers Association.
He was married to the former Grace Hoffman who survives with his mother, a resident of Erie, and these daughters: Mrs. Peter (Nancy) Demchak, Camp Hill; Mrs. William (Mary Ann) Stapel, Detroit, Mich.; and Mrs. Michael (Patricia) Sassaman, Poughkeepsie, N.Y. He is also survived by six grandchildren and these sisters: Mrs. Mary Beezer, Philipsburg; Mrs. Francis Kloecker, Mrs. Lisle Britten and Mrs. Jack McAndrews all of Erie. One sister, Claire, preceded him in death in 1943.
Friends will be received in the Heath Funeral Home Thursday evening and until time of services on Friday.The Rosary will be recited Thursday at 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
