Henry was born on the family farm in Milford Township. His father was a farmer. He attended Dr. Martin Luther High School and College and became a Lutheran parochial school teacher. He taught at Lutheran schools in Arlington, MN, Mazeppa, near Watertown, SD, and Burr Oak, WI. Henry also played the organ at these churches. While in Burr Oak, he organized the Concordia Band teaching many how to play instruments. In 1918, he resigned from the teaching profession and went farming in SD. While there, he served as Register of Deeds and worked as secretary and treasurer of an insurance company. Henry married Minnie June 23, 1908 in Germantown, SD. They had 3 children, Winfried, Millicent and Lorraine. Henry was keenly interested in family history and a letter he wrote in 1961 to his niece, Delia, told the story of his grandfather and uncle's deaths during the Sioux Uprising of 1862. In 1938, the family moved to St. Paul, MN where he worked as an assistant engineer for Concordia College. He died of a heart attack.
