RHODES - Dr. J. Melvin, 59, Sebring, Fla., died April 29, 1976. Born June 14, 1916, in Johnstown, son of Waldo E. and Grace (Davis) Rhodes. Preceded in death by his parents and wife, Rhoda Metz. Survived by these brothers and sisters: Alice Mosholder, Everett; Faye Vorhauer, Portage; Garnet Croyle, 217 Vaughn St.; Forrest, Johnstown R. D. 1; Lurane Hunter, Mendota Heights,Minn.; and Calvin, Conemaugh R.D. 1. 1939 graduate of Juniata College, Received master's degree from Pennsylvania State University and his doctorate from University of Arizona. Veteran of World War II. Served as a major in China-Burma-India Theater. Was dean of students at Juniata College for five years. Was employed at the Tribune Publishing Co. From 1946 to 1947.Friends received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at William T. Hindman Funeral Home, 146 Chandler Ave., where service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, the Rev. Homer C. Hess and the Rev. Chalmer Dilling. Interment, Allensville Presbyterian Cemetery.
