PIONEER IS CALLED
Mrs. Mary Hite Passed Away Saturday Night After Long Illness.
This afternoon, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. H. Jennings, 610 West Adams street. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. R. W. Chamberlain over the body of Mrs. Mary C. Hite, who died there Saturday night at 8:15, of general debility, following an illness with abdominal cancer.
Immediately after the services the funeral party left in a special car on the traction line for Kokomo, burial being in Crown Point cemetery there.
Mrs. Hite was almost 84 years of age. She was the widow of the late Jacob B. Hite, and since his death, had lived much of the time with her daughter here.
She was the last surviving member of the old Missionary Baptist church at Fishersburg, one of the first churches established in Madison county, and was widely known among the older residents of this section.
She was born at Gallipolis, Ohio, but had lived in Indiana most of her life.
She leaves the following children: Mrs. Sarah Jennings, of this city; Mrs. Amy Gray, of Rosenberg, Texas; Mrs. Flora Lamb and Mrs. Julia McCarty, of Kokomo; Thomas Hite, of Washington; Mrs. Nancy Moore and Mrs. Esther Paul, of Hillisburg; James Hite, of Forest; Mrs. Amanda Heaton, of Elwood, and William F. Hite, of New Mexico. Five brothers and sisters also survive her.
