Gilbert Theodore Eiler passed away April 7, 2000 at the Ottawa County Health Center in Minneapolis at the age of 87. He was born on a farm east of Delphos November 25, 1912, the son of Bernard J. and Louise J. Gronewaller Eiler.

He was united in marriage to Josephine Srna on April 24, 1935 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Minneapolis. They farmed
northwest of Minneapolis until moving to a location south of the park in Minneapolis in
1947. He was a farmer, stockman and mechanic. He operated an auto repair shop, the Home Garage, until retiring in 1980. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Golden Wheel Senior Center and a former member of the Minneapolis Saddle Club.

Survivors include his wife, Josephine of the home; two brothers, Leonard Eiler of Safford, Arizona and Leo Eiler of Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Three sisters, Marie and Regina Eiler and Kathryn Johnson preceded him in death.

A vigil service was held Monday at Shields Funeral Home. The funeral mass was April 11 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Rev. Ken Lohrmeyer officiated. Vocalists were Dennis and Suzie Foerschler. Harriett Pieschl was the organist.

Honorary bearers were Evan Gorman, Jerry Campbell, Merrill Pogue, Charles Carlson and Melvin Zuker.

Casket bearers were Jim Corman, Shane Campbell, Cleo Daugherty, Rod Dubbert, Brad Wolfe and Dale Johnson. Interment was in Highland Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials to the Ottawa County Health Center or Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
