Peter Schmahl, Sr., 82, formerly of Gravesville in the Town of Charlestown, died Friday at Calumet Memorial Hospital, Chilton, where he had been hospitalized for the past week. He had been ill for five years and for the past year was a resident of the Toth Nursing Home.
Born in Stepnoia, Russia, June 17, 1885, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Schmahl, he came to the United States in 1908, and to the Town of Charlestown in 1920. He was employed at the Carnation Milk Co., Chilton, for 34 years until his retirement in 1954.
On Feb. 20, 1907 he married Anna M. Frank in Stepnoia, Russia. She died March 25, 1964.
Survivors include five sons, Peter Jr., Henry and Richard, Chilton, George, Coca, Fla., and William, Fond du Lac; four daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Katherine) Baumann and Mrs. Richard (Anna) Kemerling, both of Elgin, ill., Mrs. Earl (Emma) Helmke, Grinnell, Iowa and Mrs. Robert (Louise) Kleinschmidt, Saginaw, Mich., 25 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Two daughters and a son preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at St. Martin's, Rev. Robert Novotney, pastor, officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery, town of Charlestown.
