P J HUTMACHER FUNERAL RITES HELD HERE SUN

DIED AT A MILWAUKEE VETERANS HOSPITAL

Peter J Hutmacher, late of Springfield, died at a soldiers' hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, Thursday, September 3, at the age of 54 years. he had been in failing health for several years and had been receiving treatment for a chronic ailment in hospitals for most of the past three years.

Mr. Hutmacher visited among relatives here a few days early in July and had high hopes of being released from the hospital shortly to be with his family at Springfield, but there came a relapse and and a constant loss of strength until taken in death. His wife and nephew, Edward Wooley, were at his bedside when the end came. He was conscious to the last and was quite cognizant of the fact he was dying.

Mr. Hutmacher was the son off the late Peter Hutmacher and Christine Hutmacher and was born in Teutopolis on March 3, 1882. He came to Dieterich with his parents where he grew to manhood. He was a kind friend and father.

He enlisted for service in the World war and served overseas for almost a year and a half. He saw service with the 166th Aero Squadron. He was mustered out with the rank as a first class sergeant.

After returning home from the war he was united in marriage to Edith Lustig. To this union were born four daughters, Edith and Louise aged 14 years, Eilean 12 years and Norma 9.

The body arrived at Effingham Friday evening and was removed here by the Wright motor hearse, and then taken to the old home, now the home of Mr. and Mrs C. J Steppe where it was viewed by many relatives and old acquaintances.

Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the pastor Rev Fr P R Mccauley officiating. The latter also officiated at the parish Cemetery.

It was a military funeral. The military service was in charge of Joseph Meyer, past pot commander of Effingham and W W Austin acted as Chaplain. R K Volts was in charge of the firing squad, composed of the following members of the Effingham Post, Geo Bauer, Allie Kemme, Arthur Guyon, J Wilson, Alfred Underriner and Joe Worman and Emil Reinholdt of the Dieterich PoSt Taps were sounded by Arthur Guyon and Russel Michael blew the echo.

The pall bearers, all ex-servicemen, were Arthur Field, Allie Westendorf, Fred Fritscher, Lloyd Wiles, Robert Haack, Irl Lewis. A large concourse of sympathizing friends were present for the last sad rites.

Requiem mass was read on Monday morning by the pastor Rev fr P R Maculey.

Surviving besides the bereaved widow and four daughters are three sisters, Mrs T L Wooley, Mrs C. J Steppe of Dieterich and Miss Mary Hutmacher of Oklahoma; two brothers, Louis of Ft Madison, Iowa and Alfred of Oklahoma; other relatives and many friends.
