John Anderson Mock was the son of Adam Mock (1792-1856) and Sarah Pickett Mock (1800-1834), who married c1825 in North Carolina. After Sarah died, Adam remarried to Nancy Ripple (1817-1906). Adam had five children by Sarah and 12 by Nancy.

John married Rosena (sometimes seen as Rosanna) Paulina Rothrock (1833-1881) on 29 Oct 1850 at Davidson County, North Carolina. The family lived at Salem, Forsyth County, North Carolina for a short while before moving to Jonesville, Yadkin County, North Carolina in 1852. John was known as Dr. John Anderson Mock and he was a dentist at Jonesville. John and Rosena were the parents of seven known children, four girls and three boys, namely:

1. Samantha (Symantha?) A. Mock Williams (1852-1935)
2. Magdalene (or Margaret?) "Maggie" May Mock Brown (1854-1932)
3. John Martin William Anderson Mock (1857-1939)
4. Delos B. Mock (1860-c1900/1910)
5. Alonzo Warwick Mock (1866-1951)
6. Sarah Virginia "Jennie" Mock (1867-1928)
7. Carrie Cornelia Mock Underwood (1868-1943)
