Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 16, 2006 at a 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in Melancon Funeral Home Chapel in Opelousas for Yves Bernard, age 63, who passed away Thursday, September 14, 2006 at 7:40 a.m. at his residence in Opelousas.
Interment will be in Bellevue Memorial Park in Opelousas. Readers will be Joni Duhon and Amy Kidder. Musical selections will be provided by Ron Moreau and Phyllis Simar.
Mr. Bernard was a native and lifelong resident of Plaisance. He had retired with Commonwealth Life Insurance Company with 30 years of service. During his retirement, Yves enjoyed farming.
Survivors include his wife, Elwanda Lafleur Bernard of Opelousas; five sons, Tony Bernard and his companion, Connie Fontenot, of Lawtell, Thomas Bernard and his wife, Shanna, of Washington, Troy Bernard, Todd Bernard, and Mike Fontenot, all of Plaisance; one daughter, Phyllis Noel and her husband, Aron, of Plaisance; eight grandchildren, Christian Bernard, Toni Bernard, Alex Bernard, Dylan Bernard, Jacie Bernard, Heather Angelle, Chassity Noel, and Jodie Noel; two great grandchildren, Landon Angelle and Amaya Angelle; three step grandchildren, Tiffany Bieber, Amy Kidder, and Natalie Fontenot; two step great grandchildren, Alice Kidder and Ashlyn Bieber; three brothers, Joseph Bernard of Lafayette, Lawrence Bernard of Lawtell, and Leroy Bernard and his wife, Rena Mae, of Lafayette; four sisters, Rita Venable and her husband, Norris, of Church Point, Blanche Lyons and her husband, Carol, of Church Point, Elaine Marks and her husband, Yorick, of Opelousas, and Eva Mae Grimes, and her husband, Jerry, of Trinity, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Heribert Bernard and the former Adele Stelly, both natives of Arnaudville; and by one brother, Murphy Bernard.
Pallbearers will be Tony Bernard, Thomas Bernard, Troy Bernard, Aron Noel, Lester Bernard, and Wayne Lejeune. Honorary pallbearers will be Todd Bernard, Mike Fontenot, Dylan Bernard, Landon Angelle, and Shane Venable.
Melancon Funeral Home of Opelousas, 4708 I-49 North Service Road was in charge of arrangements.
