Joseph C. Rolfes

Joseph C. Rolfes, 75, lifelong Plymouth county resident, died Tuesday at Floyd Valley hospital after an illness of several months. He entered the hospital April 21.

He was born Feb. 15, 1894, near Le Mars. After farming near Le Mars for many years he retired to Le Mars in 1956 and was custodian at St. Joseph church until Sept. 1967.

His marriage to Rose C. Langel took place Nov. 27, 1917, in Le Mars.

Funeral will be Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic church, with Rev. Dean Walker officiating. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery under direction of the Luedtke funeral home.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday. The parish rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Thursday.

Mr. Rolfes was a member of St. Joseph church and the Holy Name society.

Casketbearers will be Kenneth Rolfes, Victor Langel, Marvin Langel, Cornelius Rolfes, Le Roy Harpenau and James Ortmann.

Survivors are his wife, Le Mars; two sons, Lt. Col. Aloysius T. Rolfes, Boone; Walter J. Rolfes, Le Mars, seven daughters, Mrs. Evon (Anne) Puetz, Le Mars; Mrs. Virgil (Rosemary) Sitzmann, Kingsley; Mrs. Ronald (Esther) Kurth, Primghar; Mrs. Norbert (Leona) Schmitz, Currie, Minn.; Mrs. Dwight (Betty) Wolbers, Le Mars; Mrs. Mike (Jeanne) Ludwig, Remsen; Mrs. Paul (Lois) Woll, Fort Carson, Colo.; 45 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Leo Langel, Le Mars; and a brother, Frank Rofles, Akron.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two children in infancy, three sisters, a brother and three grandchildren.
