Peter Joseph Hutmacher Sr was born in Prussia, Germany, on 18 September 1818 and died at age 65 on 9 December 1883 at Wheeler, Jasper County, Illinois, in the home of his son, Peter Joseph Hutmacher. Peter Joseph Sr is buried in what is known as the "Old Part" of St Francis Catholic Cemetery, N. Green Street, Teutopolis, Illinois, in Township 8, Range 6, Section 13, pt NW1/2 of SW1/4. Peter Sr operated a beer-garden in Germany and was called "Joseph." Peter J Sr married Anna Maria Gertrude Hauben in 1851.
He came to the United States on the Russian Ship, Johanna. The ship sailed from Antwerp and arrived in New York Harbor on May 1, 1864. He arrived with his whole family: Peter Joseph Hutmacher 47, Maria 32, Gertrud 12, Peter 7, Josephine 6, Elizabeth 4 and Joseph 1/2.
Peter J. and family settled in Teutopolis, Effingham, Illinois, USA and were members of the Roman Catholic Church.
