Death of Mrs Mike Katz
In the death of Wednesday, July 26, the community lost a good Christian women, and the family a devoted mother. Mrs Mike Katz was held in high esteem by all who knew her for her many fine qualities. She had the faculty of making friend of all with whom she came in contact and her generous nature held all such friendships.
Josephine Hutmacher was born in Germany, near Tripsrath, on May 15, 1854. She came to this country when she was seven years of age came direct to this country. After the death of her parents she went to DuQuoin and was married there to John Anheuser. To the union one son was and he died some 10 years ago. Her husband died in 1878 and in 1880 she was united in marriage to Michael Katz. They were blessed with eight children, five of whom are living, namely: Frank, Pete, Louis and William at Home and Mrs Mart Nosbich. The husband also survives.
Mrs Katz became ill about fifteen months ago and since last November she has been bedfast almost all the time. Her ailment was dropsy. The internment took place Friday morning from the Catholic Church and the remains were followed to their last resting place by a large concourse of sorrowing friends.
