Rites for Mrs. Mary E. Carey of 510 S. Elliott St., who died at 2:30 p.m. Monday at her home after an illness of two weeks, will be conducted at 9 a.m. Thursday at the St. Mary's Catholic Church by the Reverend Edgar J. Cyr. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Meeks Mortuary Wednesday.
Mrs. Carey, the widow of John E. Carey, former chief of police, was born in Anderson and lived in Muncie 52 years. She was a member of the St. Mary's Church.
Survivors are a daughter, Margaret E., of Philadelphia; two sons, Thomas J. and Mark R. Carey, both of Muncie; a brother, Dr. Mark Ryan of Detroit; nine grandchildren, three of whom are in military service, Lieut. John J. Carey, India, Thomas Carey, Jr., Coast Guard, Essington, Pa., and Mark Carey, Jr., Coast Guard, Boston; and five great-grandchildren.
