--Oldest of 4 children born to Albert J. Schmidt and the former Bertha Zelma Patton.
--Grew up on the farm near McKittrick (Montgomery County, MO) with his parents, maternal grandparents, paternal great-grandmother, maternal great-uncle and three younger sisters.
--Father left home, and Marv's parents divorced around 1937.
--Finished the 8th grade before beginning full-time farm work.
--His family moved to Hermann in about 1941.
--Served in the US Navy during WWII, and he received an honorable discharge with the rank of Machinist Mate 3rd Class. He worked as a mechanic for many years and then as a service manage for a Ford Motor Company dealership.
--Married to Darlene Saak of McKittrick on September 14, 1946.
--Lost two sets of infant twin boys in 1947 and 1949.
--Made their home in Overland, Missouri.
--Two adopted children: Danny (1952-2012) & Deborah Ann, who were biological siblings.
--Darlene died in 1972 of cancer.
--Re-married to Virginia Lee Taylor Castle in February of 1974.
--Still lived in Overland, MO but enjoyed time at his and his wife's summer home in La Pointe, Madison Island, Wisconsin on Lake Superior.
--Marv raced stock cars and continued to be an avid fan of racing all his life. He was a member of the Grace Church of St. Louis and was a valued member of their maintenance staff, benevolence ministry, snow removal and shuttle crews. In his retirement he was active in the St. John's Church of Christ in LaPointe, Wis.
--Died at the home of step-son Rich Castle in rural Callao, Missouri at age 81.
--Survived by wife Virginia; son Danny & wife Barbara of Phoenix (Arizona); daughter Debbie Killian & husband Mike of St. Charles; 3 step-sons, Nial Castle & wife Jackie of Theodosia, MO, Rich Castle & wife Julie of Callao, MO, and Norman Castle & wife Linda of Gardner, KS; one step-daughter, Carol Brooks of Troy, MO; 27 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters Darlene Kattelmann of Hermann, MO, and Dorothy "Dot" Busen and husband Gene of North Fort Myers, FL; nieces and nephews.
--Preceded in death by parents, his first wife, Darlene, two sets of twin boys, and by one sister, Irma Stiers.
--Memorial service August 12th at 9am at Grace Church of Maryland Heights, MO, officiated by Pastor Mark Burgdorf. The Schmidt family was served by Hutton & McElwain Funeral Home in Macon.
