Katherine was the youngest child of 13, born to George and Katie (Berg) Beisel, German immigrants from Russia who came to America in 1899. She was survived by her parents, 4 brothers, 7 sisters, 2 nephews and a niece and pre-deceased by a baby brother in infancy.
