Mrs. Anna Schumacher, 91, widow of the late Simon Schumacher, died unexpectedly early today at the farm home of her son, Oscar, a mile north of Howards Grove. Mrs. Schumacher, although one of the Town of Herman's eldest residents, and been in previous good health, having been up and around the house Sunday, Members of the family found her dead in bed this morning. It is believed she passed away about 4 a.m.
The former Anna Arnhoelter, she was born in Herman, March 11, 1865, a daughter of the late Carl and Sophia Arnhoelter. She was confirmed April 6, 1879, in the Evangelical and Reformed Church, Herman by the late Rev. C. T. Martin. Her marriage to Mr. Schumacher, Nov. 11, 1887 was performed in the same church and by the same minister. Following marriage the couple lived on the Town of Herman farm now operated by the son, Oscar. Mr. and Mrs. Schumacher observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1937. The husband died in 1940. Mrs. Schumacher was the oldest living member of Immanuel Evangelical and Reformed Church, Herman, and belonged to its Ladies' Aid Society.
Surviving, in addition of the son Oscar, is another son, William, also of Herman; two daughters, Mrs. Laura Knoener, Town of Mosel, and Mrs. Harry Erbstoeszer (Hilda), Haven; nine grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Miss Ida Arnhoelter, and Mrs. Alvin Reineking, Town of Herman; and three brothers, Henry Arnhoelter, Sheboygan, and Otto and Gustave, Town of Herman. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Lydia Werthmann, four sisters and two brothers.
