NEW VIENNA, Iowa - Mrs. Mary J. Freking, 94, of New Vienna, died Sunday, Oct. 22, 1995, at home after a bout with cancer. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Vienna. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where the New Vienna Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary will accord rites. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where the VFW Auxiliary rosary will be at 3:30 p.m. and the parish scripture service will be at 7 p.m. Mrs. Freking and her husband farmed in the New Vienna area all of their lives. She was born on June 10, 1901, in Dyersville, daughter of Barney and Elizabeth (Boeckenstedt) Engelken. She married Frank F. Freking on Jan. 25, 1921, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville; he died in 1981. She was a member of St. Boniface Parish and its altar society and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting, baking and loved spending time with her family. Surviving are a daughter, Kathleen (Louis) Wessels, and a son, James Freking, both of New Vienna; 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. She also was preceded in death by a son, Bernard Freking; a daughter, Julianna Boeckenstedt; a daughter-in-law, Rita Freking; her parents; three sisters; and six brothers.
