They moved on to MI and then to Sioux City, IA. Her husband Franz, known as Frank, died at the age of 36, leaving Sophie with seven children. One of her sons, John, died in infancy. Her oldest son, Paul, went to work at the age of 12, helping his mother to support the family. She worked as a seamstress.
Sophie lived with her children as they grew up and married. She helped with caring for her grandchildren and doing other tasks to help out.
She passed away at the age of 99 years, 4 months and 21 days.
