Christian Turbes was born to Hubert and Anna (Grosjean) Turbes in Manderfeld, Prussia (now Belgium). His home was in nearby Herresbach (now Belgium). As a young child he immigrated with his family to America in May 1857. A month later his father Hubert died following their arrival in Minnesota. His mother remarried to Mathias Hillesheim.
Christian may have also had a sister Christina who later became a nun (see R. Krzmarzick's "Roots and Relatives Remembered" family tree entry).
Christian married Anna Ross on July 26, 1881 after her family immigrated to America in 1868. More detailed information is available on the Schroeder family website and History of Redwood County, Volume 2; p.883.
