Herbert C. Roehl, 95, of West Bend, finally joined his beloved wife, Betty, in Heaven on Sunday, October 30, 2011. Herbert Carl Hermann Roehl was born September 21, 1916 to Otto and Emma (Plautz) Roehl on the family homestead in the town of Osceola, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. He was baptized, confirmed, and married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dundee. He often said that he was the longest term usher the church ever had; from his confirmation until his marriage. His family continues the tradition by holding his memorial service at the church that was such a big part of his life. Herb loved to dance and met his future bride at Lighthouse Lanes Dance Hall in the town of Barton which was operated by her uncle John Bertram. Elizabeth Marie "Betty" Bertram, daughter of Arthur and Pearl (Sackett) Bertram was born April 15, 1924 in Barton Village. Betty and Herb married on September 29, 1945. Being born and raised on a dairy farm, it was only natural that Herbert purchased his own farm after his marriage. Prairie View Stock Farm was located in the Town of Mitchell, Sheboygan County (near Parnell). He raised Holstein dairy cows and crops on 160 acres. He was extremely proud of the peas he grew for Stokely. Growing up during the Great Depression, Herb learned the art of economy very well. He became quite inventive and constructed many useful items from bits and pieces of others. He repaired his own machinery and even designed replacement parts when needed. When his wife, Betty, died unexpectedly on November 14, 1970, Herb auctioned off all his cattle and equipment and sold the farm. He built a new house near Dundee and lived there until November 2004. He then moved to West Bend sharing the home of his son and daughter in law.

Herb is also preceded in death by his brother, Vilas Roehl; his sister, Leona Roehl Backhaus; and his infant sister, Irma Roehl. Also deceased are sister and brother in laws; Marion Roehl, Viola Ramthun, June Bertram, Frank Backhaus, Leo Bertram, Elroy Ramthun, Warren Bowser and Edwin Kempf.

Herb is survived by his son, Steven H. (Karoline) Roehl of West Bend and his granddaughter, Beth Ann Roehl (fiance Dave Mehnert) of Glenbeulah and his eldest sister, Edna Roehl Kempf, age 100. He is also survived by nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends.

A celebration of Herbert's life will be on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dundee, Rev. Richard B. Schliewe, officiant. Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 7:00 PM followed by the memorial service. Interment will be Friday at Ledgeview Memorial Park, Fond du Lac
