Katie Rein, daughter of G.H. "Henry" and Elizabeth (Margheim) Foos, was born Apr. 27, 1890, at Merkel, Russia. Her death occurred on Aug. 26, 1984 at the Lucas Nursing Home. Her age was 94 years, 3 months, and 29 days.
Katie came at about the age of 3 years to this country and her family settled on a farm in the Ness and Rush Counties area. She received her basic education in the rural school near Bazine, KS. She married Henry Rein on Dec. 31, 1911 at Bazine. This union was blessed with four children: Esther, Carl, Edwin, and Dorothy Mae.
Her early married life was lived on the Rein family farm south of Russell in the Pioneer community where she raised her children and occupied her days with the many and varied activities of a farming housewife, homemaker and mother. They moved from the farm to Russell in 1947, where she continued to live until her health required closer medical attention. For the past six weeks she has resided at the Lucas Nursing Home. Katie was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Russell.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Henry who died Dec. 9, 1966; three brothers: Henry, Clarence and William Foos; and three sisters: Lydia and Pauline Foos and Martha Filbert.
Survivors are 2 sons: Carl H. Rein and Edwin H. Rein, both of Russell; 2 daughters: Mrs. Edwin (Esther) Olson, Russell; and Mrs. Robert (Dorothy Mae) Wire, Smith Center, KS; 9 grandchildren and 8 gt. grandchildren. Other
survivors are 2 brothers: Sam Foos, Sun City, AZ; and John Foos, Gt. Bend; 2 sisters, Ethel Kerbs and Hannah Schenkel, both of Gt. Bend; several other relatives and a host of friends.
