Hoisington - Ralph Lawrence Karst, 73, died March 14, 1991, at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend. He was born Nov. 6, 1917, at Galatia, the son of Jacob and Eva Rein Karst.

A Hoisington resident since 1963, moving from Galatia, he was a grocery store owner. He was a member of United Emanuel Lutheran Church of Milberger, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7428 of Hoisington and Gideon's International. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He married Esther Marie Dietz June 8, 1941 at Milberger. She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Stan, of Topeka, and Greg, of Madison, Wis.; a daughter, Melina Kershaw, of Saginaw, Mich.; two brothers, Robert, of Hoisington, and Hubert, of Galatia; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Prayer service was at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home in Hoisington. Funeral service was at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Milberger, with pastor Carl W. Dietz presiding. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery in Galatia, with military graveside rites. Memorials may be sent to the church or to Gideon's International, both in care of the funeral home.
