Bernard Wenstrup was the son of Bernard Wenstrup and Bernardina Borgmann. He was born at Schierberge in Nellinghof, bei Neuenkirchen, Oldenburg, Germany on 14 February 1852. Bernard was baptized at Saint Boniface Catholic Church in Neuenkirchen, Oldenburg, Lower Saxony, Germany on 16 February 1852. In August 1871, Bernard Wenstrup stowed away on a ship to America to avoid military service. During this time, Otto Von Bismark had unified Germany and it was mandatory for every male citizen 19 years of age to serve in the German army. In 1872, Bernard was working as a tailor in Cincinnati, Hamilton, County, Ohio, USA. On 4 May 1875, Bernard Wenstrup married Anna Gertrud Beissenkroll at Saint Antonius Church on Budd Street in Cincinnati, Ohio. After the death of Anna Gertrud on 2 June 1888, he married Anna Gertrud's sister, Catherine Beissenkroll. They were married at Mother of God Catholic Church in Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky, USA on 7 February 1889. Bernard Wenstrup died at Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky on 28 April 1935. The cause of his death was gangrene of the left foot and endocarditis. He was buried on 1 May 1935 at Mother of God Cemetery, Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky USA, section 3, lot 270. Bernard Wenstrup has no tombstone marking his grave.
