John Keil
John Keil, son of George and Katherine (Ringler) Keil, was born September 21, 1903, at Topeka, Kansas. He departed this life on April 24, 1973, after months of failing health. His age was 69 years, 7 months and 3 days.
John lived his early life in Fairfield Township and attended the Hawley school in that area. On January 25, 1926, he was united in marriage to Anna Krug at the Michaelis Lutheran Church near the family home, and this union was blessed with five children, Doris, Marvin, Melvin, Larry and Dean. They made their home on a farm in Fairfield Township near the Michaelis Church until 1943 when they moved to a farm in the West Kennebec Community near Bender Hill. John continued his career as a farmer-stockman, with a great deal of his lifetime work centered around his livestock. When they moved from the farm to Russell in 1962, John continued his farming and completed his wheat harvest last year, even though his health was failing.
Along with his farming, John was very active in work for Fairfield and Lincoln Townships where he helped build and maintain the roads. He also served for many years as a school board member for the Hawley and West Kennebec School Districts and as a deacon for the Trinity Lutheran Church at Bender Hill.
John was baptized on September 27, 1903, into the Lutheran Faith at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Topeka, Kansas, and confirmed on March 18, 1917, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church (of Michaelis Church) south of Russell. At the time of his death he was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church of Russell.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant son, Melvin; four brothers, George, Phillip, David and Alexander; one infant sister and two infant brothers; also one grandson, Michael Maier.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Anna, of the home; four children and their spouses, Doris and Ruben Maier of Natoma, Marvin and Else Keil of Colby, Larry and Carolyn Keil of Grand Island, Nebraska, and Dean and Margaret Keil of Russell; 15 grandchildren; one great grandchild; two brothers, Ruben of Russell and Herman of Hoisington; and a host of other relatives and friends.
