J. Arthur Hellmer was born in Waterloo on Oct. 21, 1898, the son of George and Mary Mueller Hellmer. His siblings included Mrs. Martin Korando, Mrs. Martin Gannon, and Carrie Hellmer.

He married Josephine Korando on October 30, 1928 in Raddle. Together they had the following children: John, William, and Robert Hellmer and Betty Hellmer Heins.

Mr. Hellmer was a farmer and had served for several years on the Jackson County Farm Bureau Board of Directors. He was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Raddle and the Modern Woodsmen of America, Camp No. 10696.

He died Saturday, March 14, 1970 at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro after a short illness.
