Anita Bell, 91, a long time resident of Clive, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2011 at Deerfield Retirement Community in Urbandale.

Dorothy Anita (Jordan) Bell was born May 14, 1920 on a farm near Cambridge, IA to George Roy Perl and Isabel Georgina (Johnson) Jordan. After graduating Shipley High School, Anita moved to Des Moines to attend the American Institute of Business. She met her future husband, Robert Bell, in Des Moines on a blind date arranged by Bob's brother and sister-in-law, Maurice and Ranny. Anita and Bob were married on May 4, 1945 in Norfolk, Virginia where Bob was stationed as a Navy pilot.

Although Anita was a homemaker for most of her life, she worked as an office manager and physician's assistant for R.C. Wooters, M.D.M.E. from 1960-1980. She was a member of Windsor Heights Lutheran Church for over 55 years.

Anita was many things: a wonderful cook, a passionate collector, and an excellent seamstress. She could grow anything from beautiful roses to huge squash and zucchini. She took pride in her home and was often found playing on her organ or singing a song. But most of all, she will be remembered for her love and devotion to her family.

"Grandma Ne-Ne" had a special place in her heart for her four granddaughters and seven great-grandchildren. She spent countless hours with her granddaughters, especially around the holidays when she would take each one of them to do their Christmas shopping and gift wrapping.

Those left to cherish Anita's memory include her daughter, Janet (Frank) Berlin of West Des Moines; son, Grant (Pam) Bell of Clive; four granddaughters, Brooke (Travis) Acheson, Brette (Fred) Scott, Devon (Vince) Sabotta, and Courtney Bell; and seven great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Emma and Gretta Acheson, Evan and Frankie Scott, and Azure and Quinton Sabotta. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Grant, Harvey, Roy, Dick and Lawrence Jordan and sister, Lois Christensen. Her beloved husband, Bob preceded her in death in 2011.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Monday, January 16, 2012 at Dunn's Funeral Home. The family will receive friends and visitors from 9:30 am until the, service begins.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association, 1730 – 28th Street, West Des Moines, Iowa 50265 in memory of Anita Bell.
