Cape Girardeau - Martin Thomas Halter, age 90, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Charleston died Dec. 10, 2007, at Auburn Creek Care Center here.
He was born Mar. 5, 1917, in Charleston, son of Michael H. and Mary E. Carlisle Halter. He and Regina H. "Jean" Chambers were married June 2, 1940. She died Jan. 17, 1995.
Mr. Halter was a farmer and manager of the Alfalfa Mill in Tiptonville, Tenn. until returning to Charleston in 1951, when he and his brother Norbert established the Halter Brothers Construction. He was a building contractor until retirement and was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church.
Survivors include a son, Gary Halter; a daughter, Carole Calvin; a brother, Norbert Halter; a sister, Mary Ellen Stricker; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, a great-grandson, five brothers and five sisters.
Funeral Mass will be at the St. Henry Church. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery near Charleston.
