Albert Lubben
April 18, 1922 ~ January 20, 2003

Albert Lubben was born on April 18, 1932 at Le Mars, Iowa the son of Gerd and Sophie (Weber) Lubben. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended rural school near Le Mars. When he was ten years old his family moved to central Minnesota. In 1944 Albert entered the United States Navy where he achieved the rank of Seaman First Class and served on the ship USS Sargent Bay until his honorable discharge in 1946. He returned to the Wheaton, MN area and was united in marriage to Marlyn Holm at Alexandria, MN on March 20, 1948. Albert farmed near Norcross, MN from 1948 until 1953 and at Tintah, MN from 1953 until 1960. He was an active church member at St. Paul's Lutheran in Nashua and Christ Lutheran in Elbow Lake, MN serving various church offices and teaching Sunday school. In 1960 the couple moved to Barrett, MN area where they farmed and Albert also worked for the Soo Line Railroad in Glenwood for fifteen years. Albert served on the Barrett Public School Board and they were members of Zion Lutheran Church in Hoffman, MN. Albert retired in 1984. In 2000 they moved to Alexandria, MN where they have been members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Albert had been fighting a rare illness called Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP) and died at his home January 20, 2003 at the age of 80 years.

Albert is survived by his wife, Marlyn of Alexandria; three daughters, Judy (Rick) Fabian, St. Cloud, MN, Brenda (Ron) Snartland, Alexandria, MN and Renae (Mel) Morse of Alexandria, MN; son-in-law Larry Bugbee, St. Cloud, MN, five brothers, Walter (Leone) Lubben, Wheaton, MN, Wallace (Margaret) Lubben, Fergus Falls, MN, Pete (Arlene) Lubben, Roseville, MN, Darrell (Evelyn) Lubben, Saginaw, MI and Lowell (Dorothy) Lubben, Eagan, MN, two sisters, Marie Schmidt, Wheaton, MN and Clara (John) Osterman, Alexandria, MN. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Dana Berg, Matt Bugbee, Tracy Morse, Erin Fabian, Sam Bugbee, Andy Morse and Sara Fabian, and five great grandchildren.

Albert was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Diane, granddaughter, Chris Fabian; two brothers, Harm and Victor Lubben and Victor's wife, Joanne.

Services were held Thursday, January 23, 2003 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Alexandria, MN with Reverend Wade Meyer officiating. Interment was in the Wildwood Cemetery in Wheaton, MN. Pallbearers were his grandchildren. Honorary Pallbearers were Albert's Godchildren Ron Holm, Wayne Holm, Jeff Gabbert, Steve Lorenz, Debbie Muzik, Jack Rydell, Bonnie Vogel and all those who called him Friend.
