CLARA G. OSTERMAN

Clara Gertrude Osterman was born on November 30, 1917 in LaMars, Iowa, the daughter of Gerd and Sophie (Weber) Lubben. She was baptized in January of 1918 in the Evangelical Lutheran faith by Reverend J.J. Valdmar at LaMars, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm and attended a country school near LaMars, IA. In 1933 she moved with her family to Minnesota and was confirmed in March of 1934 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Dumont, MN. She later moved to Minneapolis, MN where she was a nanny.

On September 24, 1939 she was united in marriage to John Osterman at St. John's Lutheran Church in Dumont. The couple farmed for 3 years in Walls Township near Wheaton, then for 5 years south of Dumont, until on December 24, 1946 purchasing their home 10 miles southeast of Wheaton. Many good years were spent there on the farm. In 1977 the couple bought a home by Lake Victoria near Alexandria where Clara was able to enjoy her hobby of fishing and growing flowers. John and Clara joined Zion Lutheran Church. In 1992 they moved to a town home in Alexandria.

Clara G. Osterman died on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria at the age of 92 years old.

She is survived by her brothers Walter (Leone) Lubben; Wallace (Margaret) Lubben; Pete (Arlene) Lubben; Lowell (Dorothy) Lubben; sisters-in-law Marlyn Lubben, Evelyn Lubben, and Jean Osterman; brother-in-law Marvin Osterman; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John Osterman; sisters Marie Schmidt and Loretta Lubben; brothers Harm Lubben, Albert Lubben, Victor Lubben, Darrell Lubben and an infant brother.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria, with the Rev. David Hinz officiating. Laurie Krueger served as organist. Interment will be in the Kinkead Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gary Volker, Paul Johnson, James Osterman, Fred Vogle, Gregg Lubben, Roy Murray, Harvey Sorenson, and Larry Bugbee.
