Funeral Service for Walter Lubben, 87, of Wheaton, Minnesota, will be held Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton, Minnesota with Rev. Charles Horkey officiating. Organist will be Sara Rinke with special music provided by David Lubben. Pallbearers will be Walter's grandchildren. Interment will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, rural Wheaton with burial rites by Pastor Tom Volker. Visitation will be held Friday, October 29th from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service at St. John Lutheran Church. Visitation will continue Saturday morning, one hour prior to service time. The Ranney Funeral Home of Wheaton, Minnesota is in charge of arrangements.

Walter Lubben was born on April 9, 1923 in LeMars, Iowa to Gerd and Adelheit "Sophie" (Weber) Lubben. He was baptized on May 27, 1923 in LeMars. At the age of ten, the family moved to Minnesota. Walter grew up on a farm near Dumont, Minnesota and attended public school. He was confirmed on April 10, 1938 in St. Johns Lutheran Church in Dumont. Walter was united in marriage to Leone Davidson of Chokio, Minnesota on May 26, 1946 at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton. They spent most of their married life on the family farm near Norcross, Minnesota where they raised their five children. They retired to their home in Wheaton in 1995 and became a resident of the Traverse Care Center in 2003. Walter was very active in his church and held a number of offices in the congregation. His greatest joys were spending time with his family, farming, playing cards, and making people laugh. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Walter is survived by his wife Leone of Wheaton, five children: Linda (Gary) Volker of Herman, MN, Larry (Sheila) Lubben of West Fargo, ND, Vicky (Ken) Frigen of Jamestown, ND, Beth (Paul) Johnson of Alexandria, MN and Steve (Rose) Lubben of Dumont, MN, two brothers: Wallace (Margaret) Lubben of Fergus Falls, MN and Lowell (Dorothy) Lubben of Eagan, MN, three sisters-in-law: Marlyn Lubben of Alexandria, MN, Arlene Lubben of St. Paul, MN and Evelyn Lubben of Saginaw, MI, sixteen grandchildren: Tom Volker, Rebecca Pruse and Jennifer Selander of Minneapolis, MN, Lia Dobrinz of Mapleton, ND, Matthew Lubben of Buffalo, MN, John Lubben of Columbus, OH, David Lubben of Wilsonville, OR, Lori Mecklenberg of Winnemuca, NV, Stacy Meck of Portland, ME, Benjamin Mecklenberg of Keene, NH, Jessica Dahlquist of Cottage Grove, MN, Andrea Sewall of Breezy Point, MN, Laura Hagstrom of Denver, CO, Brian Johnson of Moorhead, MN Chris Lubben of Dumont, MN and Ryan Lubben of Fergus Falls, MN, and thirty great-grandchildren.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters: Loretta Lubben, Marie Schmidt and Clara Osterman, and brothers: baby boy Lubben, Harm, Albert, Victor, Pete and Darrell Lubben.
