Sam served in the USNR Sept 23, 1945 - July 12, 1946. He was a Merchant Marine, serving April 21, 1948 - Sept 21, 1949; TRACEN; Org. Surf Div.

He went on to serve in the Marine Corps where he was a Staff Sergeant, Amphibious Truck Crewman July 12, 1950 - Dec. 19, 1952; Korea: Assault & security of Inchon; Capture & securing of Seoul; Participated in Wonsan-Hungman-Chosin campaign; Participated in operations against enemy forces in south & central Korea.

Married Joan Sullivan on March 10, 1959 in Juarez, Mexico.
