The daughter of John D. Gross and Henrietta E. (Ketzler) Gross, Albertha (Gross) Meyer was born on June 7, 1875 in Mt. Sterling, Brown County, Illinois. On November 3, 1892, she married local butcher, Francis D. "Frank" Meyer, at St. Joseph's Church in Mt. Sterling. Sadly, only one of their six children lived to adulthood, and Albertha died in childbirth at their home in Mt. Sterling on Christmas Eve, 1905.
