Obituary (Tigerton Chronicle, 16 Apr 1938)

VICTIM OF CEREBRAL HEMORRHAGE AT FARM HOME THURSDAY, APRIL 7

Could each one of us have our choice as to the manner in which we were to leave our earthly surroundings, some of us would choose to go quickly -- perhaps go to sleep here and wake up Yonder -- others would rather that they might linger a while, knowing the end was near, yet rejoicing a short time longer in the presence of loved ones, preparing for a separation that will not seem so endless, because those loved ones will come later on. Henry Tullberg, a resident of Morris, was among those for whom a sudden ending was planned in the scheme of Life. On Thursday morning, April 7, he was sitting in a chair by the fire at his home, located about 3-1/2 miles south of Bowler, when at about 6:15 he was suddenly stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage. He was alone at the time and was found by his son after Death had claimed him. He had not been sick at all, although a few weeks ago he suffered a slight stroke which affected the right arm, but from which he had practically recovered.

Henry Tullberg was born Aug. 10, 1874, in Denmark, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lars Olaf Tullberg. When 9 years of age he came to this country with his parents and has been a resident of the town of Morris for over fifty years.

November 24, 1910, he was united in marriage to Esther Jorgenson by the Reverand Holtz of Clintonville. They have lived on the same farm near Bowler during all the years of their marriage, Mr. Tullberg having bought the place and having the house in readiness for his bride. Two children blessed this union, a daughter Viola, who passed on about 10 years ago at the age of 15, and a son, Vernon, 19 years old, who with the bereaved widow survives, as do also four brothers -- Harry of the town of Morris, and Einar and Carl of Bismarck, N.D., and Alfred, Aberdeen, S.D.

Funeral services were held last Monday afternoon from the East Immanuel Church, Morris, of which he was a member. He was interred in the East Immanuel church cemetery. The following carried the remains to their final resting place: Fred Boldig, William Hanson, Harty Simpson, Hans Christiansen, Martin Reisenweber and Jule Yaeger.

Mr. Tullberg was always happy in his chosen field of work, that of being a farmer, but he was likewise a carpenter, and in the same way that he found happiness in tilling the soil, he was happy in being a builder, not only structures of wood, but friendship and good will as well.

Our sympathy goes out to those who mourn the death of Henry Tullberg.

At the time of his father's probate in 1923, Henry was engaged in the banking business in Tigerton.
