WELL KNOWN LADY OF FREEPORT DIES
Mrs. Wolking. Proprietor of Hotel There Summoned After Short Illness.
The death of Mrs. Bernadine Wolking occurred at he home in Freeport Saturday noon after an illness of six days with pneumonia and heart trouble.
The funeral was held at the Sacred Heart church at Freeport Wednesday morning at 9:30 o'clock, Rev. Father Maurus officiating.
Leona Woebkenberg, a grandchild was crossbearer and honorary pallbearers were: Mrs. Mike Kraker, Mrs. Dina Adrian, Mrs. John Stommes, Mrs. Henry Blommel, Sr., Mrs. Barbara Harren and Mrs. Anna Buttweiler.
The active pallbearers were: Geo. Laing, August Weichmann, Hubert Thelen, Peter Thelen, Mike Seitz and Henry Mueller.
Mrs. Wolking's maiden name was Bernadine Beuning and she was born in Damme, Oldenburg, Germany on February 28 1855, being pass 80 years of age at her death. She came to America at the age of twenty years and located at Cincinnati, Ohio. She was married in St. Ludwig's church there to Anton Wolking in February 1879 and a few years later they came to Freeport. Mr. Wolking died in 1918. For twenty-five years Mrs. Wolking conducted the Freeport Hotel.
The children surviving are: Mrs. Peter Nellesson of St.Paul, Mrs. Los. Woebkenberg of Grey Eagle, Anton Wolking of St. Anthony,Mrs. Math Oehrlein of St. Paul, Lawrence Wolking of Donnelly, Louis Wolking of El Reno, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Otto Harren of Freeport. Brothers and sisters surviving are: William Beuning and Mrs. Josephine Schulte of Freeport and Herman Beuning of Cincinnati, Ohio. There are twenty-seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was a member of the Christian Mothers Society.
Mrs. Wolking was a remarkable woman and was held in very high regard by her community and many friends. She had a very active life, serving her the public, her community and her church faithfully and generously.
