At the age of nine years he came to Culbertson with his parents. On July 23, 1943 he was married to Maxine Shepherd at Oberlin. He spent his entire life farming west of Culbertson. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a World War II veteran. He was a member of the Culbertson Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion and the McCook Elks Lodge.
Survivors are his widow, Maxine; a son, Kent of Wichita; a grandson, Jeffrey; his mother, Mrs. Henry Rippen; four brothers, Willard, Alfred, Leland, and Gordon Rippen, all of Culbertson, and two sisters, Mrs. Merylin Fassler and Mrs. Blanch Brown, Culbertson.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Eldo Kirkus officiating. Interment will be in the Culbertson Cemetery under the direction of the Herrmann Funeral Home. Memorials may be addressed to the Harlan Rippen Memorial Fund.
