CULBERTSON -- Alfred (Shorty) Rippen of Culbertson died Tuesday afternoon at Community Hospital at the age of 69 years.

He was born September 11, 1913 at Hallam, Nebraska to Henry and Carrie Rippen and was united in marriage to Jacqueline L. Henry, December 24, 1951 at Trenton. He was a member of the McCook Elk's Lodge, VFW No. 6219, the American Legion, T-Bone Club, and the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie of Culbertson; four sons, Ted, Jerry, Troy, and Todd, all of Culbertson; two grandchildren; two brothers, Leland and Gordon, both of Culbertson, and two sisters, Mrs. Blanche Brown, and Merlyn Fassler, also of Culbertson.

Funeral services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Culbertson with the Rev. Richard Atherton officiating. Music: Organist - Shirley Stecker; Soloist - Ivan Groothuis; Songs - "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow," "Beyond the Sunset."

Escorts - Walt Zapp, Albert Holub, William Gohl, Ed Geier, Loren Bedore, Kenneth Alberts.

Honorary Escorts - Jake Fries, Rusty Schilz, George Sitzman, Jack Schlager, Sam Haller, Henry Ruff, Allen Varney, Harold Hartzer.

Burial will be in the Culbertson Cemetery under the direction of the Carpenter-Breland Funeral Home of McCook. Memorials are being accepted in his name and may be left at the funeral home.
