Ruth Sheldahl, age 94 of Lakota, Iowa died Sunday March 9 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday March 15 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lakota with Pastor Lynn Noel officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 PM at the Winter Funeral Home in Buffalo Center & one hour before the services at the church on Friday. Burial will be at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.

Ruth Mildred Hertzke Sheldahl was born on February 17, 1920 to Paul F. Hertzke and Mattie Leigh Hertzke in Lincoln Township outside Lakota, Iowa. She was baptized on April 25, 1920 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lakota. Ruth was confirmed in the same Lutheran Church on May 28, 1933. She attended country school in Lincoln Township and completed high school, graduating May 18, 1937 from Lakota High School.

On September 8, 1938, Ruth and Edward Sheldahl were united in marriage in St. Paul's Lutheran Church where she remained a member until her passing. From that union, they welcomed 3 sons and two daughters into this world while farming near Lakota, Iowa. Ruth and Ed farmed until retiring in 1980.

Ruth had a love of gardening and flowers keeping the back yard looking pretty for most of her years. She enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, quilt making and working word puzzles. Her cinnamon rolls were her hallmark item baked for family and friends. Ruth cherished her time with her family; with her children and families visiting frequently. She also shared her lifelong love of the Lord with her family.

She is survived by children: Robert and Mavis Marlene Sheldahl of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Gary and Eleanor Sheldahl of Forest City, Iowa; Diane and Paul Geilenfeldt of Baxter, Iowa; Nancy and Thomas Distler of Solon, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 2 step great grandchildren; one step great-great grandchild; brother and sister-in-law, Otto and Alfa Hertzke; sister-in-law Charlene Hertzke; sister-in-law Shirley Sheldahl; numerous nieces; nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, her parents, her son Duane, great grandson Noah Mellema, her brothers, Maynard, Raymond and Charles and sister, Elsie.
