Maynard is the oldest son of Paul and Mattie. His wife, Clara, was the daughter of John and Laura Wirtjes, Maynard and Clara farmed in the Lakota community all their life. Their children were Harlan, Donna and Lynn.
Clara died in 1969. Maynard retired several years later and moved into Lakota.
Maynard has five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
