Raymond and Pearl Wirtjes were married on August 12, 1936.
In 1941 they purchased the grocery store from Emma and Louise Thaves. Later they built an addition on to the store and bought the locker and meat processing business from Louis Thaves. In 1966 they sold their store and locker business to Robert Burger.
Raymond was active in all the town activities, serving on the school board and town council. He was a rural route mail carrier for 44 years; a fireman for 13 years; city clerk for 10 years. They were members of the St. Paul Lutheran Church. Pearl is a charter member of the Lakota Garden Club.
